The concept of globalization encompasses the different connections between the countries in our world and how people from different parts of the world do what they do. Teaching globalization requires young learners to think of the world outside of their hometown and what differences and similiarities possibly reside with these other parts of the world. As a teacher, teaching globalization means specifically introducing the idea of immigration and emigration and why it happens.
During my placement and volunteer hours at different elementary schools, I was required to teach the concept of immigration because of a story we were reading that involved this mass movement of people from one country to the other. We discussed the factors causing people to immigrate, why they have differences compared to us, and why coming into new countries may be difficult for them. To gain a more personal reflective, I had a child in my class who came from Korea to share her experience with immigrating to Cananda and what she remembered about first entering Canada.

To help the children understand this type of globalization, I used the
Venn diagram to discuss with the children the differences between the two countries being discussed and how these people were similiar. This diagram helps the students learn to COMPARE & CONTRAST.
