The four of us have created this website as part of our Social Studies class for our educational training, and it has given us the opportunity to share with viewers different approaches for teaching Social Studies topics in elementary school. We hope you enjoy browsing through our different articles and reading through our own personal experiences with these approaches. There are many great ideas and pointers to obtain from these articles; enjoy!

In June of 2013, my time as a student will come to an end as I graduate from the Concurrent Education/ECE program at the University of Windsor. Upon graduating, I will achieve my goal of becoming an elementary school teacher, something I have dreamed of since I was little. I truly look forward to providing students with a stable, welcoming environment, as well as an enriching education. Social Studies was one of my favourite subjects growing up, and now looking at it through the eyes of an educator, I can see why. So many valuable and meaningful topics are discussed in this particular subject that stay with you and are relevant to your life at any age. Topics including culture, community, and government, all have such deep, significant underlying messages that help students understand and accept differences in people. I hope to convey these important messages through teaching Social Studies and help students live their lives as proud, accepting, knowledgeable Canadian Citizens. Through this website, our group looks to provide fellow educators and parents with a better understanding of how important the subject of Social Studies is, as well as how to effectively implement the curriculum within the classroom.

I am a twenty two year old Concurrent Education/ECE student at the University of Windsor and I am in my graduating year. I am specializing in teaching children which I very much enjoy, as well as in English Literature for my major. I am passionate about teaching because I truly believe it makes a difference in the life of a child, and teaching children has never been, and I don't think ever will be a dull moment. You have the ability to truly influence a child to be the better version of themselves for their present and future. People always remember their favourite teachers because they make that much of an impact, and I am proud to have chosen this route for my future profession. Social studies is one of those topics that can generate so many interesting discussions and meaningful learning moments, which is why I hope viewers take advantage of all the different ways to present these topics that we have generated here for you!

After a five year journey, I will soon be graduating in June of 2013 from the Concurrent Education/ECE program at the University of Windsor. Teaching has been a passion of mine for many years, but it was in grade 12 that I decided becoming a teacher was a goal I had to achieve. Teaching is a profession where you have a lasting impact on the lives of people. It is my goal as a teacher to make a student’s education as meaningful, memorable, and enriching as possible. I want to provide children with the foundations that will allow them to have a successful future by teaching them practical skills that they can use everyday, but also life lessons and understandings. Social Studies has been a passion of mine since I was young, as my Dad passed his love of Social Studies onto me. As a teacher, I hope to pass this love onto my students by presenting them with meaningful information and lessons on this topic. I hope to illustrate to them how learning Social Studies is beneficial to us as Canadian citizens. I hope this website provides fellow educators, administrators, and parents with some information on how Social Studies should be presented in the classroom and the value of a Social Studies curriculum.

I remember that my decision to become a teacher was made in Grade 6 when my friend and I were discussing our future careers. Since that time, my choice for a future career has not changed, as I knew that I had decided on the perfect career for me. I believe that my teachers throughout the years have had a profound impact on me, and I want to continue this cycle and positively impact future students, just as my teachers impacted me. I am in my fifth and final year of the Concurrent Education Program at the University of Windsor, with a major in English Languages and Literature and minor in French Studies and History. This program has given me practice and prepared me with the resources and knowledge to be able to make a difference for my future students. Social studies is a major component of this, as society has a profound influence on the development of individuals and how they perceive the world. It is my hope to present social studies in a clear manner that relates directly to the children. This website highlights different ways to approach the subject of social studies, and I hope it can be used as a resource when implementing the social studies curriculum.
